Tap Water Jam was founded in New York in 2011 by the dancer-DJ duo Theo Rocha Custodio, aka Rafiki, and Dominique Sophie. It was created to unite the worlds of club culture, House dance, Hip Hop dance, and music culture. Since then, Tap Water Jam has travelled globally, visiting cities like Paris, Montreal, Tokyo, and Copenhagen. In Montreal, Tap Water Jam has become an artist collective creating unforgettable events and battles for street dancers and music lovers alike.
At the heart of Tap Water Jam is a bold vision: to create a space where music, dance, and club culture converge to inspire, refresh, and unite artists from the street dance scene. The creators of Tap Water Jam were inspired by their years within the New York House Dance scene to create events where dancefloors offer an immersive and total dance experience. In response to the need to return to the original customs of street dance practiced in clubs, Tap Water Jam organizes parties and an annual event in May, which includes a battle, performances, and master classes. The club context is undeniably the anchor and root of street dance. It is with the intention of preserving this precious space for rejuvenation and creativity that the collective's mission is grounded. Past collaborators include Phi Center, Music Is My Sanctuary, Festival Under Pressure, and 100lux.
