All-encompassing
Working title
Rooted in the practices and techniques of House dance and music, this research investigates escapism as a space for introspection, transformation, and resistance.
The final work in a trilogy, this creation approaches escapism not as an act of flight, but as a strategy for survival, protection, and reinvention. Delving into the dancer’s inner world, it questions how we inhabit our bodies and imaginations. Through theory and practice, I examine coping mechanisms alongside joy, alter egos, and humor as expressions of resistance and self-affirmation, echoing the social movements from which street dance and club cultures emerged. These hidden realms, both the underground and the underworld of the mind, can become obsessive refuges for artists. At its core, the project asks: what lies between self-determination and self-delusion?
Bringing together five dancers and two DJs, the project interweaves extended improvisation, choreography, and live DJing. Through repetition, listening, relay, and synchronization, the performers cultivate a collective interplay in which individual identities converge, shift, and reshape one another. Structure emerges in real time, navigating the tension between control and unpredictability.
